Castle Park Elementary - Our Playground is Complete! Thank you!
Our dream and vision was to build a playground for everyone regardless of age or ability. When we learned that our playground needed to be updated and we could not build on our existing structure because the manufacturer went bankrupt, we decided to build a playground where all children could play together - one that would not deny any child from getting on to experience the joy of a simple question: "Will you play with me?"
This is how our Play for ALL project was born. Since 2009, the Parent Advisory Council at Castle Park was allocating funds toward new playground equipment. In 2012, we were able to install Phase 1 which consisted of 6 swings and 2 accessible swings. In 2013, we were able to install Phase 2 which included ramps, sensory panels, a buddy bus, slides, etc. Phase 3 included monkey bars, a zipline, and rubberized surfacing (so everyone can access the play surface). Finally Phase 4 went in in 2014 which included higher level climbers and higher slides.
The funding for this project could not have been done without the help and support from many individuals and their families. We acknowledge all our supporters and have recognized donors who have contributed over $200 on a plaques on the playground. As of 2013, this will be the first Universally Accessible Playground in the City of Port Coquitlam!
