Head Lice Information

Picture
As we all settle back into routines and activities life is so busy, we don't have time for anything unplanned. And then you notice your child scratching their head. You take a closer look and there it is....head lice!
Did you know that the most common time for head lice in schools is right after breaks.  Head lice is a parasite that does not discriminate, it likes all heads. Sadly, there is a stigma that comes with them and many people do not want to discuss it, so they try to tackle it on their own.
There is a lot of misinformation out there regarding treatment of head lice (yes, even from Fraser Health). The only way to truly get rid of it is to do proper comb outs on a regular schedule until they are clear for 3 weeks. Toxic shampoos and tea tree oil will not do the trick.
Let's work together as a community and do everything we can to be on top of it. If you have someone in your home with head lice please download this brochure for further instruction and contact information for professional assistance.

BC School Fruit and Vegetable Nutritional Program

The BCSFVNP is supported by the Province of BC and the Provincial Health Services Authority. It is administered through BCAITC, a non-profit organization dedicated to “Working to bring BC’s agriculture to our students.” The Foundation works with local growers and distributors to bring fresh BC products to students.

Once a month students receive fresh servings of fruit or vegetables at school.  Some of the benefits are listed below.
  • It increases students' exposure to, and willingness to try, fruits and vegetables.
  • It increases awareness of locally grown foods.
  • It teaches safe handling practices for fresh produce.
  • It make local fruits and vegetables available to students in BC schools.
  • It supports the local economy and builds relationships between industry partners by working with local growers and distributors to bring fresh BC products to schools across the province.
